another last lunch

this time at my "chinese mum's" - that's what the dongbei lady calls herself. she was always really good to me, and our last lunch there was a feast. so were the good-bye jiaozi we had there two days later (after already having had dinner and yet qingbuliang to follow).

sunrise

we tried to see the sunrise, a thing i had wanted to do ever since i arrived in bo'ao, but it always just seemed too early to get up. well, we weren't really lucky, as it was a cloudy day. but breakfast was good.

interview at the golf course

bo'ao's number of golf courses is increasing almost annually. as i interviewed one of the lawn managers (is that the correct translation? i had never heard of that job before...) i got to see one f the older ones. and the surroundings.

dinner at xiulan's

the last few days in bo'ao consisted of eating, interviewing, trying to find people i could interview, and good-byes.
valerie and i had a lovely hainanese dinner at our friend xiulan's.

good-bye breakfast

with chinese and italian friends. originally we wanted to do a picnic on the beach. well, the downpour kinda ruined that plan...

my favorite cake

valerie liked it, too.

my students in qionghai

as some of you might know, during my stay in the qionghai area i had a teaching job in a local english school which was good fun!

good times

after introducing chaobing to valerie (and vice-versa) thomas, valerie and i enjoyed a fun night out in town with marco (from switzerland), his girlfriend and their chinese friend mario.

haikou through valerie's lense!

last but one time in haikou

before picking up valerie i started my good-byes in haikou - a stroll through the evergreen park, coffee with my friend jane (and her boyfriend's relatives) and lunch with liu laoshi, one of my teachers from back then.

Old Mao and liquor

a short tea break in one of the local restaurants that opened just recently. is that why the kitchen is so clean?

the seaport in tanmen

seafood lunch

after checking out the seaport and the shell carving factory we had our own share of sea products: a lovely seafood lunch in the shade.

a factory

tanmen is famous for its shell products. before having lunch we took a detour to have a look at one of the factories.

impressions from a fishing port

a happy reunion

my teacher (the man in the middle) met up with an old friend from school whom he hadn't seen for quite a while. picture taking followed (all men except for the japanese student on the left are qionghai locals thus speak hainanese...ting bu dong.).

on our way to tanmen

my chinese teacher took us to tanmen the other day. tanmen is a fishing port about 8km away from bo'ao. here two pics i took on our way there, one of them featuring a typical coffee/tea house sceen on hainan island.

independence day celebrations

@ elizabeth's, including fireworks, apple pie, strawberry and mango margaritas. good times!

seafood dinner with friends

i'm well aware of the fact that i always post pictures that feature food. for a reason. pretty much all the social activities in bo'ao involve eating. no matter what time of the day (or night).
that day XiaoSu invited some friends over to her dorm to have an amazing seafood dinner. yummie!!! our cook (the guy with the shrimp) did a really good job.
